Olomouc Experts Contribute to Unparalleled Study on Tenancy Law

Ten top European teams, four years of investigation, culminating in a comparative study on tenancy law, the extent of which is unparalleled in history. This sums up the recently concluded project TENLAW, financed by the European Commission. Pavel Petr and Petr Podrazil from the UP Faculty of Law participated in the research.

“The resulting study explores and compares tenancy laws in Europe based on current legislation and is unique in its scope, quality, and authors. The project should also be able to influence tenancy law in Europe,” said Pavel Petr from the Department of Private Law and Civil Process. He and Petr Podrazil collaborated as members of the expert team from the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland. The team was directed by Magdalena Habdas. In the course of four years, the experts met at symposia in Pisa, Tarragona, Delft, Ljubljana, and Tartu. The final international conference was hosted in Budapest in September 2015, under the auspices of László Andor, a former European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion.

Under the leadership of Pavel Petr, an English-written study Tenancy Law and Housing Policy in Multi Level Europe has been published in the edition Research of Palacký University Press. Partial results of the project, in the form of a national report for the Czech Republic, were thus made available to experts. At the project’s website, interested parties including the lay public may download brochures with basic information on housing and rents in the individual countries of the EU.

The TENLAW project was a joint collaboration of 10 European universities and research centres. The teams involved more than 70 lawyers, sociologists, and architects. Their work was directed and coordinated by the Centre of European Law and Politics at the University of Bremen. The project was financed by the European Commission within the Seventh Framework Programme at a cost of 2,692,526 EUR.
