Help the Refugees – Donate Toys and Games!

Palacký University, in collaboration with Caritas Olomouc, announced a public collection of toys and games in connection with the refugee crisis. Along with providing material help, further coordinated by a number of other organisations, the university thus hopes to help refugee families to overcome the hardship of their journeys. People may bring children’s toys as well as games for adults to the Palacký University Information Centre and UPoint shop on the Upper Square in Olomouc.

“Building blocks, brain-teasers, children’s picture books, and other items are welcome. Pair-matching games are very popular, but they need to be already cut, of course,” explained Petr Bilík, UP Vice-Rector for External Relations. Big plush toys are not convenient, because they are not easy to deal with, nor too complicated board games. The donated items should be clean and undamaged to best serve their purpose.

The university announced the collection after consulting Caritas Olomouc and other organisations, including advice from students who come from the afflicted areas.

“This form of collection is very suitable; it’s a highly welcome complement of other humanitarian activities that are currently organised,” said Petr Macek, Deputy Director of Caritas Olomouc.

The collection is not limited in terms of time. A part of the donations will be transported to the crisis areas for those in need by representatives of Palacký University and Caritas Olomouc on Friday, during their monitoring journey.

 

The UPoint shop on the Upper Square is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
