Jitka Ulrichová

Prof. RNDr. Jitka Ulrichová, CSc., (born 1956) graduated in Biochemistry from the Faculty of Science, University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně (now Masaryk University in Brno). In 1997, she received her title of Associate Professor of Biochemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Charles University, Hradec Králové, and in 2003, the title of Professor in the same field at the Faculty of Medicine in Olomouc.

Today she runs the Institute of Medical Chemistry and Biochemistry, which includes an accredited laboratory for testing the cytotoxicity of medical equipment. Jitka is on the editorial board of specialized journals Biomedical Papers and Acta Medica. She has spent part of her professional life abroad (eg INSERM Montpellier, Centre national de la recherche scientifique a Université Pierre-et-Marie-Curie, Kemijski inštitut Ljubljana).

Her thesis, doctoral dissertation, and majority of her research all focus on the study of the biological activity of natural compounds. The results of Jitka’s research appear not only in original papers but are also reflected in the implementation sphere – in areas such as food supplements.

She has been Vice-Rector for Science and Research since 2006. She has broad experience in national and international grant projects as both the investigator and evaluator, both in the Czech Republic and the EU (Grant Agency of the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of CR, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of CR, the EU Framework Programme, Erasmus Mundus). She was able to prove her organizational skills as the President of the Czech Chemical Society from 2005 until 2013.

In her next term of office, she would like to reinforce the involvement of research teams in international projects, support young researchers, and interlink research teams with the application sphere.
