Palacký University

Ivana Oborná

Prof. MD. Ivana Oborná, Ph.D. (1961) studied General Medicine at the Medical Faculty of Palacký University in Olomouc, where she also received her Ph.D. degree and Associate Professor title.

Since her graduation, she has been working at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the PU Medical Faculty and the Olomouc Faculty Hospital, where she has specialized in the treatment of infertility and assisted reproduction. Both her doctoral and habilitation theses dealt with this topic, on which her research partly concentrates even today.

Ivana is a member of many Czech and foreign professional organizations, but also the investigator, co-investigator or a member of the research team of several grants from the Internal Grant Agency of the Czech Ministry of Health that focus mainly on the causes of infertility. Currently, she is actively involved in interdisciplinary projects, such as the teaching-oriented operational programme of the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports The Practice Training and Educational Centre (VTEC), which is an ideal combination of preclinical and clinical teaching of medicine.

As Deputy Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology for instruction, she organized undergraduate courses for students of the Faculty of Medicine both in Czech and English, lectured in courses for specialized training, and tutored several students of part-time doctoral programmes. Within the vertical integration of the curriculum she also taught at the Department of Anatomy as she believes that linking clinical and preclinical instruction is truly crucial. Closely linked with teaching is international mobility, in which Ivana has been involved since launching her career at the University – she is the guarantor of a number of contracts between the Faculty of Medicine and foreign partners. Until 2014, she was Vice-Dean for International Relations and English Programmes of the PU Faculty of Medicine.

Ivana views the position of Vice-Rector for International Relations as an opportunity to take advantage of her experience from being Vice-Dean for International Relations at the PU Faculty of Medicine and to capitalize on contacts abroad she has acquired during her research and teaching career. She believes that the internationalization of Palacký University may promote not only its internal development, but also make it a desirable partner in the European region.
