Diploma recognition

List of documents for the proceedings to have foreign university education and qualifications recognized in the Czech Republic

Application

An application for recognition is filed with the Rector of Palacký University. The details in the application include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • first name and surname of the applicant, academic degree, scientific degree;
  • date and place (country) of birth;
  • valid identification card number or valid passport number;
  • place of permanent residence, or mailing address, e-mail address, or as the case may be, phone number,
  • name and full address of the foreign university,
  • name of the programme or field of study,
  • date of commencement and completion of studies at foreign university,
  • grounds for the application,
  • date and signature of the applicant.

Application form to have foreign university education and qualifications recognized in the Czech Republic

Annexes to the Application:

a) an affirmation of the applicant to the effect that the application for recognition has not been granted before by another university registered in the Czech Republic and that, together with the application to the Rector of Palacký University, recognition is not applied for with another university registered in the Czech Republic;

b) an original copy or an authenticated copy of the university diploma issued by the foreign university; if recognition of Master’s degree is applied for, an original copy or an authenticated copy of the university Bachelor’s degree diploma must also be submitted;

c) an original copy or an authenticated copy of the diploma supplement, if recognition of Master’s degree is applied for, an original copy or an authenticated copy of the Bachelor’s diploma supplement must also be submitted;

d) additional information to the effect that the program of study was implemented by an institution authorized to implement educational programs equivalent to university education under the Universities Act, as well as information on the content of the foreign university study (accreditation certificate/ licence for the programme or field of study);

For Medicine programmes, a description of individual courses must be provided, including time demand with a clear differentiation between lectures, seminars and hands-on training (in Czech or English).

If the foreign university does not or did not use to issue diploma supplements, the applicant shall submit an original copy or an authenticated copy of a list of courses completed at the university, including course time demands and applicant’s grade.

Any documents in a foreign language attached to the application must be translated by a certified translator into Czech. This does not apply in cases where recognition is applied for to study a follow-up programme in a language in which the documents are issued.

Proceedings to recognize foreign university education and qualifications in the Czech Republic are conducted in Czech; therefore, the decision (not) to recognize foreign university education and qualification in the Czech Republic is issued in Czech.

It is possible for the applicant to grant a power of attorney to an agent to be represented in any matters related to the recognition of university education and qualifications in the Czech Republic. For a power of attorney form, see here:

FAQ:

Do I have to pay for the recognition?
Recognition is not subject to a fee.

How long does the recognition proceedings take?
It usually takes 30 days; in complex cases, the period may be extended by 30 days.

Do I get the original copies of documents back?
You get them back if you apply for it in writing.

Is it possible to extend the set time limit if documents need to be submitted?
It is possible to extend the time limit; however, such an extension must be applied for in writing.

May I deliver the application for recognition in person?
You may deliver it in person at the filing office of the Rector's Office of Palacký University, Olomouc, Křížkovského 8, 771 47 Olomouc.

Is it possible to be represented in the recognition proceedings?
Yes, it is possible, but only under a power of attorney that you grant.
