ATENEO Choir

The choir was established in 2001 by the students interested in choir singing. Its repertoire includes a wide spectrum from classical music (older periods and contemporary authors too), choir adaptations of folk and popular songs up to compositions of blues, spiritual or gospel. The realisation of the compositions is either a capella or instrumentally accompanied. The choir has been from the beginning conducted by Pavel Režný, associate professor of Palacký University.

At present the Ateneo mixed choir is formed by approximately 35 singers at the age of 18–30. Activity of the choir is guaranteed by the Palacký University. Ateneo regularly performs at concerts  in all the Czech Republic. The choir has obtained international awards (in Slovakia, Austria, Switzerland, France, Denmark, Poland, USA). It has cooperated with other musical ensembles – choirs and chamber orchestras and contemporary Czech composers (J. Pavlica, A. Tučapský, P. Klapil, R. Pachman, J. Pospíšil). Some compositions were performed as the first public performance (e. g. A. Tučapský: Missa Clara, 2008).  The choir was awarded a prestige prize of the Union of Czech Choirs – The choir of the year 2009.  

Choirmaster doc. PaedDr. Pavel Režný, Ph.D.

In 1983 he graduated at Palacký University in Olomouc, in 1987 at University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Prague. 2000 – Ph.D. (Charles University, Prague). 2005 – doc. (Associate Professor at University of Matej Belo, Banska Bystrica). He has been engaged in chorus leading already since the times of his studies. He worked as a conductor of children's, youth's and mixed choruses. With some of ensembles he made recordings for the radio, TV and he released records on sound mediums. He performs with the choir at the concerts publicly in the Czech Republic and abroad.
